I've been everywhere, man. At least that's what it feels like. If you're like me and do a lot of driving then 10,000 miles in under four months doesn't seem like too terribly much. To others, it's more than they drive in a year.
As far as I can tell, it takes a special breed of person to enjoy being on the road all the time. The long, monotonous hours of being stuck inside a vehicle can bother a lot of people. But give me a roadtrip with my Zune, some energy drinks, and some cherry Pull'N'Peel Twizzlers and I'm set for the next thousand miles or so.
I like to do my driving in a truck . I find that the large size of the vehicle and solid V8 are both comforting and comfortable during long excursions. Others may settle for a mid sized sedan or even a coupe. But whichever you choose to be your trusty steed, there are a few important things you'll need to remember if you want your steed to stay off of the side of the road:
Regular fluid checks. I can't tell you the amount of times I've run through a seemingly clear patch of highway only to find that it's been infested with every type of window-hitting bug known to man. And since I didn't check my fluids, I had to stare at some bug's thorax all over my windshield.
Another big one is oil and coolant. Oil is one of those things that cars need to, you know, run. Always be sure to check that dipstick before driving long distances. Coolant is also a great thing to have - especially if it's hot outside. If you've ever seen a car on the shoulder with steam pouring out of its engine bay, you can bet that the poor sucker driving it ran out of coolant. Oops.
And finally, check those tyres.shtml>tyres.shtml> tires! Slow leaks and bad treads can cause you to blow a tire, which never has a good outcome! Remember to rotate your tyres.shtml>tyres.shtml> tires ever few thousand miles to get the most bang for your buck.
